Course Description

Over 800-yards of Par 3's Alone!

The layout of Hesston Golf Park's course goes hand-in-hand with the whole philosophy at Hesston Park: Great golf accessible to all. That means if you're a long hitter and sport a single-digit handicap, Hesston, with a rating of 71.8 and a par of 71, provides a plenty big challenge. But it also means that those of us who like to see what we're shooting at, can enjoy our day from the 5,658-yard gold tees.

The fairways at Hesston are quite wide and forgiving. With very little along the lines of out-of-bounds or fairway bunker or water hazard, tee shots are certainly not your biggest worry here. Also, the four and five-par holes aren't tremendously long.  So it's clear that Hesston's wide fairways and short holes will make for a scorer's paradise, right?

Well…Not exactly. There are two distinguishing characteristics at Hesston that truly set it apart from other plains courses. The first is that the par 3's average a whopping 200-yards from the back tees. With the 17th only playing to 186, that means there's plenty of yardage left for 4th at 193, the 13th at 203 and the 8th at 217! Make par on all four of Hesston's 3-pars and you've set yourself up for a great score!

The other characteristic that sets Hesston apart is that, as if to make up for the lack of topographical elevation changes, every last green on the course is elevated. That's right! You get 18 chances at refiguring your yardage and factoring elevation changes! If you miss anywhere at Hesston, you're looking at an interesting flop or lob shot, but if you miss on the short-side, you're really going to challenge your short game imagination. Now how's that 217-yard par three sound?

The one hole that actually does have a dramatic elevation change and arguably the signature hole, is the par 4, 14th. While not terribly long, 14 is a solid dog-leg left with a true risk-reward element to it. Cut off too much down the left side and you could end up wet in the pond that guards the dog-leg, or go too far left and there's OB to contend with. Those who choose to play traditionally will get the benefit of added length from the tee, but still be left with a long approach to a very elevated and small green. Par's a great score here.

But the real signature hole is actually the group of par threes at Hesston. Depending on the wind and your length, driver off the tee isn't unheard of. There are those long-time players at Hesston who say that they've hit everything above an 8-iron on the par threes here and that's not hard to believe.

If the long par 3's or Middle Emma Creek have taken their toll on you through the first 15 holes, never fear. Hesston leaves the best for last and offers you some solace. The closing holes at Hesston actually feature the easiest hole on the course and offer some true birdie opportunities. So no matter how you're looking at the turn, remember that there is always a chance to salvage your round coming in.

Even the shortest par 3 on the course, the 186-yard 17th, is on the home stretch to offer some true relief!
